{"id":585,"date":"2004-11-30T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2004-11-30T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/badinage.com\/journal\/?p=585"},"modified":"2004-11-30T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2004-11-30T10:00:00","slug":"fine-feathered-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/badinage.com\/journal\/2004-11\/585-fine-feathered-friends","title":{"rendered":"Fine Feathered Friends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was reminded of a couple of amusing encounters when <a href=\"http:\/\/pinque.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">pinque<\/a> wrote in her journal: <i>people still stop to let ducks cross the road<\/i>:<\/p>\n<p>I live not too far from the waterfront, so there are a LOT of geese around. <\/p>\n<p>I once saw an entire family of geese cross the road: Mama Goose in front, followed by four or five fuzzy goslings, and Daddy Goose bringing up the rear to make sure everybody got across safely. And better still was that ALL the cars stopped &#151; it&#8217;s a wide road with two lanes in each direction &#151; until the geese were off the road!<\/p>\n<p>Another time, we came over a hill and saw some geese crossing the road. As we approached them, probably faster than they might have liked, the last straggler started to flap his wings while waddling the last four or five feet to the curb. <font COLOR=\"#663300\"><b>Chocoholic<\/b><\/font> thought he was trying to fly the last bit. I told her what he was really doing was puffing himself up to try to scare us away! &#8220;I&#8217;m a BIG goose, so you will be afraid of me!&#8221; Silly goose!<\/p>\n<p>Oddly enough, I haven&#8217;t see any geese in my backyard.
