{"id":484,"date":"2003-08-25T16:12:00","date_gmt":"2003-08-25T16:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/badinage.com\/journal\/?p=484"},"modified":"2003-08-25T16:12:00","modified_gmt":"2003-08-25T16:12:00","slug":"healing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/badinage.com\/journal\/2003-08\/484-healing","title":{"rendered":"Healing&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m walking around the office in a bit of a daze today <font COLOR=\"#FF0088\">(they don&#8217;t give Bereavement Leave when someone&#8217;s pet dies&#8230; Why not?)<\/font> trying to put the pieces of my heart back together. Fortunately, both of my bosses (one for the company I work for, one for the client I service) are away this week, so if I really needed to I could take off.<\/p>\n<p>My older brother called me a little while ago to say he had an extra ticket to the baseball game tonight&#8230; I think it will help me take my mind of things to get completely out of my normal element (rather than sitting around at home or at <font COLOR=\"#663300\"><b>Chocoholic<\/b><\/font>&#8216;s house).<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to go home and check on Orson to see how he&#8217;s doing all alone, but I guess a few more hours won&#8217;t make too much difference, and I&#8217;ll spend some time with him before I go to bed. One thought that came to mind was that this is probably the very first time in his life that he has been ALL ALONE. In the past whenever I went away for the weekend, he still had Ridley there to talk to.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m also hoping this period of lonliness will make him bond with me a bit more; he&#8217;s been a bit aloof over the past few months as it is. <\/p>\n<p>Because Ridley was so old (the best guess life expectancy I could find for budgies was 7-8 years), I&#8217;d kind of been preparing myself for the inevitable. It didn&#8217;t make it any easier to deal with when it finally happened.
