Giorgio Mammoliti, who chairs the zoo&#8217;s board, told council yesterday.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The zoo board will meet next month to consider money-saving options, including closing for a few months, cutting back on animal-rescue programs and laying off staff, Mammoliti said.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Attendance is down at the zoo by 20 per cent &#151; 85,000 visitors &#151; from normal, and the absence of tourists is to blame. Fear of severe acute respiratory syndrome has left most of Toronto&#8217;s attractions, hotels and restaurants unusually empty this tourist season.<\/font> <font SIZE=-2><i>Source: Torstar News Service<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p>I saw a thing a month ago or so where they had opened up the zoo to allow cyclists to ride the trails through the place.
