Robert Heinlien’s Podkayne of Mars, and Elizabeth Moon’s “Esmay Suiza” and “Herris Serrano” series (okay, so I read them in reverse order!), for example.

And in my personal life, my most successful relationships were with women who basically made the first move. Now that is not to say that I am into the whole Submissive/Dominatrix thing— I am not (or I haven’t found one I loved and trusted enough to let her dominate me)— but I like it when a woman takes charge.

Most of my friends are women; I don’t seem to have a lot in common with the other Neanderthals of my gender! My Best Girl Buddy and Biking Partner— whom I have known and loved for 17 years now— is such a wonderfully strong-willed person that she can sometimes seem like a Right Bitch! Take our Biking Holidays, for example. Her husband (yeah, she married someone else!) isn’t too happy about it, but “it’s what we do together, so he can learn to deal with it!”

How does that saying go? Often given as advice to couples about to get married, it’s a reference to the Bible, in Genesis (2:21,22): And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from the man, made He a woman and brought her unto Adam.

“God’s choice of the rib taken from Adam’s side symbolically speaks of the equality of the partnership between man and woman. If men were meant to be superior to women, God would have taken the bone from Adam’s foot to create Eve. If women were meant to be superior to men, God would have taken the bone from Adam’s head to create Eve.”

“God chose neither the head nor the foot, but the rib, implying that man and woman are to be equal in their partnership and are to walk side by side through life.”

Of course, my problem now is “Where do I call to place that side order of ribs to go?”

I was in the shower this morning, conjugating my dangling participle, when I came to the realization that I am turned on by strong-willed, determined women.
