This was the name of several early saints, including the third bishop of Antioch who was thrown to wild beasts by emperor Trajan, and by <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.factmonster.com\/ce6\/people\/A0824929.html\">Saint <b>Ignatius<\/b> of Loyola<\/a>, founder of the Jesuits. In George Herriman&#8217;s classic <a HREF=\"http:\/\/krazy.com\/coconino.htm\">comic strip, <i>Krazy Kat<\/i><\/a>, a cat of indeterminate sex, was in love with <b>Ignatz Mouse<\/b>. Ignatz, in turn, had a somewhat antagonistic attitude toward Krazy, which he demonstrated by tossing bricks at her head.<\/p>\n<p><font SIZE=+2 COLOR=\"#FF66FF\"><b> INGRID :<\/b><\/font><br \/>\n<i>Pronounced:<\/i> ING-rid<br \/>\n<i>Origin(s):<\/i> Scandinavian, Norse, German<br \/>\n<i>Meaning:<\/i> &#8220;Beauty of Froy,&#8221; &#8220;Ing&#8217;s daughter,&#8221; or &#8220;Ing is beautiful&#8221; from the name of the Norse and Germanic fertility god, ING (known in Scandinavia as <i>Yngvi Freyr<\/i>), combined with Old Norse <i>fr\u00ed\u00f0r<\/i> &#8220;beautiful&#8221;. Swedish film and stage <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.factmonster.com\/ipka\/A0154670.html\">actress <b>Ingrid Bergman<\/b><\/a>, who often portrayed strong, sophisticated women, is probably best known for playing opposite Humphrey Bogart in <i>Casablanca<\/i> (1942).<\/p>\n<p><font SIZE=-2>Information sources include <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.behindthename.com\/\">Behind the Name<\/a>, <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.babyzone.com\/babynames\/\">Baby Zone<\/a>, and <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.factmonster.com\/\">Fact Monster<\/a>.
