This deserves a “Say What?“:

“Being Green” is all the rage these days, as people finally begin to realize what kind of environmental mess human beings have created on this beautiful and utterly insignificant little blue-green planet which orbits a small unregarded yellow sun far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy.
But “it’s not easy being green,” and it’s difficult to balance the need for environmental good deeds with the need to have an absolutely fabulous urban lifestyle. We can’t all be perfect, and so we must make compromises.
Those compromises end up becoming our little Eco-Crimes:
Don’t recycle enough?
Don’t use fresh water wisely?
Drive too many gas-guzzling, German-engineered, prestige vehicles?
Leave your computer on all the time?
Don’t make use of “environmental facilities where they exist”?
So what’s YOUR Eco-Crime?
(Mine is water use: long showers, running water to wash dishes, etc. B-R-C’s is not sorting the recycling properly, which may not seem like a big deal to you, but it can lead to recycling programs being cancelled because they are too costly to maintain!)
What do Jane Lynch of “Glee” and Kyle Gass of “Tenacious D” have in common? They were both born on the EXACT SAME DAY as me!!
And what do Damon Welch (Raquel Welch’s son), Teri Peterson (Playboy Playmate of the Month July 1980), and Eric Stone (some obscure porn actor) have in common? They were both born on the EXACT SAME DAY as B-R-C!! I wonder if I should be reading anything into the “sex connection” of those “famous people”?
BTW, psychopomp_dk was also born on the same DATE, but not the same year!
Hey, Peeps!
How’s your week going so far? 😎
I had a REALLY busy weekend that turned out to be surprisingly productive.
It started on Friday when I had a system problem to deal with from nearly the moment I walked in the door. It wasn’t resolved by 3 o’clock, so we scheduled for more to be done after 10:00 p.m. when business closed for the day. At 2:30 a.m. it still wasn’t resolved, so they needed to call for some experts to look at it. That work started at 1 o’clock on Saturday afternoon… and I finally wrapped things up at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday NIGHT!! I put in a 9-hour day on Friday, and 12 hours on Saturday!!
WHERE DID MY WEEKEND GO?! It’s a really good thing we didn’t have any important plans for Saturday!
Sunday started slow (I wonder why?!) but got better. I got a LOT done in the yard. I: pulled the bikes out of the shed; moved stuff around in the shed to organize it for summer use (vs. winter storage); mowed the lawn; cleaned out underneath the cedar along the fence; dug out some False Spirea and put it into pots for B-R-C to take to school for their plant sale; emptied out the composter; planted some hostas; cleaned out behind the shed; installed the drainage stone around the shed (and I think I could use another couple of bags full!); tidied up the future firewood stash; and played with the dog.
So because of all the overtime, I’m going to take at least one day off this week. We had planned to rent a rototiller last weekend, but neither the gardens nor I were ready. Besides, I think it will be easier to find a tiller available during the week when all the other shmoes are at work!
And here I was thinking we were supposed to have a “Day of Rest” on either Saturday or Sunday!
I thought I would share this with you (and the rest of the world)!!

B-R-C is doing stuff at her school on Earth Day, so I’ve offered to put together a mix CD for them while they work on their activities, such as gardening, yoga, yard cleanup, etc.
So far (IF I can find them in digital format) I’ve thought of:
— “Raise your hands to the Broccoli” by Pond Life
— “Leave Them a Flower” by Ed Ames
— “Where Have All the Flowers Gone” by Pete Seeger
— “Little Boxes” by Pete Seeger
— “Carrot Juice is Murder” by the Arrogant Worms
Please feel free to offer suggestions for my mix, and provide a link to a free download if applicable.
