Picked up from pinque‘s journal, and reposted here because that’s the kind of mood I’m in at the moment:

The only good news I had today has been the weather. Not only did it rain (even just a bit) which means I don’t have to worry as much about watering B-R-C’s garden, but “The Smog Advisory has been TERMINATED by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment for the following forecast regions…” (and it goes on to list them, but that information is not important at the moment except to say that my region was included in the list).
As for my attempts to find something exciting to do while B-R-C is still out of town, BOTH of them failed!
Yesterday while I was busy painting the new built-in downstairs, A Certain Someone called me no less that 10 times and left no less that two e-mails, none of which I was aware about until I came up for air two hours later! Unfortunately, she called my cell phone, which I didn’t hear because it was still inside my “murse” (aka man-purse, which is what the thing I bought to carry my cell phone and PDA looks like, according to B-R-C’s cousin Lori!). If A Certain Someone had called me at home instead, I would have heard the phone and maybe even been able to talk to her on the speakerphone.
And I’ve gotten no word about the potential plans for this evening, and now, I fear, it is dinner time, and I must eat.
Thus is the way of things. I guess I’ll spend another quiet evening putting around Cedar Grove. Lord knows there’s PLENTY to keep me busy here, not even taking into consideration the things B-R-C wants me to do!!
Since I seem to have time to kill (instead of perhaps sleeping?), I did this time-waster that hiltraud tossed my way.
We’re currently in Winnipeg, visiting B-R-C’s family. What an amazing vacation it’s been!
On Friday night, we went to B-R-C’s cousin Lor’s farm for dinner and a “Family Burn.” That’s a big, ritual bonfire where they purge stuff from their past. We had grain-fed chicken for dinner AND B-R-C even ate some! It may be the LAST time she eats chicken, but at least she tried it.
There was SO MUCH paper (B-R-C’s father’s old account books, for example) on the fire that Lor and I had to stay up late to tend the fire. While waiting for everything to burn, I saw the Northern Lights for the first time! It was amazing! Blue and green streaks dancing in the night sky!
On Saturday, it pissed down rain. It was so windy (government storm warnings!) B-R-C thought the roof of the farm house would blow off! We were supposed to go to the Winnipeg Folk Festival, but because of the rain we decided not to. Instead, we went to see Cirque du Soliel. What an amazing show. We want to get the soundtrack.
Sunday was just beautiful, weather-wise. Morning temp of 13C, and forecast to go up to 23C or more by mid-afternoon. We went to the Folk Festival, and had a great time. I bought a couple of CDs, but didn’t get all the ones I wanted. I didn’t want to buy the CDs of groups we hadn’t seen yet, and the music tent closed before I could get back to it. The big show at the end of the night included Joan Armitrading and Ray Davies (of the Kinks)!
B-R-C took me out for a Birthday Lunch yesterday, where I had a Bison Burger. I wanted something that was A) representative of Winnipeg or Manitoba, and B) something I wasn’t likely to get or have back home. We were supposed to go out after dinner for drinks in the trendy part of town, but instead we stayed in and I made Strawberry Daiquiris. Yummmmmy!
Karma has been in good hands this week, staying at our neighbour’s house. Yesterday we got a photo of a very happy looking dog, lying on the grass in the shade with a ball between her legs!
I fly home on Thursday evening; B-R-C won’t be coming home until Monday. It’s BACHELOR TIME again! I want to get together with A Certain Someone on Friday night, or Saturday night, or maybe even Sunday night; I’m just waiting to find out when that will be.
I’m also supposed to meet my Birthday Twin psychopomp_dk for drinks and philosophical conversation this weekend as well. I need to figure out when that will be. Perhaps leer is going to join us? eh?

First, B-R-C and I are heading to Winnipeg later this week. We’re going for family, business, and pleasure purposes. I’m coming home on the 17th, but B-R-C is staying out west until the 21st! So let the plotting begin!
Second, psychopomp_dk is my Birthday Twin (i.e. we share the same birthday, though many years apart), so we need to celebrate. Since I will be out of town on the day, said celebration will have to take place when I get back. If I’m not mistaken, both alcohol and leer are also supposed to be part of this equation…
Third, I need to get together separately with both tammy2tall and A Certain Someone for purposes of the aforementioned birthday celebration.
Fourth, B-R-C and a high-school pal (now living here) and I are planning a mid-week canoe trip from August 5th to 7th (or 8th). I don’t know where it will be, but these trips are a lot easier with an even number of people. So I’m looking for one, three, or five people who might like to spend a few days in the Canadian wilderness. Warning, these are NON-LUXURY trips! I’ll make you work your butt off!
I will have (limited) ‘net/e-mail access while I am away, so the plotting may continue.
