Hello, UberGeeks?

A question for those of you* more up on the hardware side of things:

Do you have any suggestions, recommendations, warnings, and/or general comments on PDAs?

I currently have a Palm T|X. It’s old technology, and a bit persnickety at times, but it serves the purpose for which it was purchased. Well, the one I purchased served the purpose for about a year. It bit the dust, interface-wise, and I obtained a (refurbished? probably) replacement from Palm. It’s a year later now, and T|X #2 is starting to act up, though not as bad as #1 did.

Recently, I started using the Palm and the desktop application on my computer to maintain the household calendar of events. I had been using an Excel spreadsheet, but I eventually realized it would be more convenient if I could actually take the calendar with me, and even more convenient if it could let me know when things need to happen. And I eventually realized that I was a Big Dope since I had the technology but wasn’t using it!! Dope!!

This morning when I showed B-R-C the latest calendar print-out, she commented that SHE should get a Palm unit, too, so she could enter her things and we could sync them together. When I picked myself up off the floor (where I landed as a result of the complete amazement at her suggestion… she is one of the most technologically challenged people I know… for example, she called me on the cell phone at my class last night because she couldn’t get the television controller to work!!)

Someone I know was commented about someone else using one of these relatively inexpensive NOTEBOOK computers as a PDA. I am thinking that might be a viable solution for B-R-C and myself.

What do you think?

P.S. We don’t want to go the Crackberry route; it will be far too expensive in the long run, and we really have no need for it.
