Have a wonderful, garbage-free day!

Somebody sent me one of those Things** about not dumping your emotional garbage on other people, and ended the piece with the line: “Have a wonderful, garbage-free day!”

So I got thinking about the physical garbage in my life.

B-R-C and I (used to?) belong to this “outdoor club” and we once had a pot-luck party/meeting at our house so we could discuss the upcoming canoe season. I realized that we have such an environmentally-friendly house!!

After they had eaten, people were coming into the kitchen to ask “where is the garbage [can]?”

I told them “We don’t DO ‘garbage’ in this house!” Here’s why:

1. Food scraps and paper napkins go in the GREEN BIN (compost).

2. Heavy-duty plastic cutlery gets washed for reuse.

3. Plastic cups, plates, and cutlery that can’t be used again goes into the BLUE BOX (recycling).

What is left to go in the GARBAGE CAN? Practically nothing! (Which, unfortunately, was also the outcome of our meeting with regards to the paddling program! But that is another issue.)

Now if only I could get B-R-C to SORT IT properly, I’d be a happy, garbage-free man!
