Let the dilution begin!

A dear friend with dual Canadian-U.S. citizenship was waxing political about this year’s edition of the Dog-and-Pony Show (or donkey and elephant show) known as the U.S. Presidential Election.

The actual election takes place in November, but for some reason that escapes me, and probably escapes most Americans, too, the PRE-election process takes up most of the year. I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the Old Days when candidates had to campaign across all the states by horse-and-buggy. I’m pretty sure that the process is as outdated in this modern, electronic age as the horse-and-buggy itself! But who am I to try to shed the glimmer of common sense and revolution on the world?!

As it happens, we’re going to have our own little election up here in Canada. But it seems we’re a little more modern: the election was announced in September (2008) with actual voting to take place in October (2008)!

So it begs the question: WHO would you vote for in the upcoming Canadian federal erection, were you to do so?

Conservative? I’m so tired of President Harper, aka Shrub (he’s like a little Bush!)

Liberal? I can’t stand Celine Dion!

New Democrat? I’ve been told by a long-time NDPer who lives in Jerk Layton’s riding that Layton is a pompous ass. ‘Nuff said.

Green? They currently have one seat in Parliament (thanks to a near-last minute floor crossing), but I don’t think they actually have Official Party Status yet.

For me, Green is the obvious choice. Unfortunately, they are still too new and too misunderstood by the general populace. This means the anti-status-quo (i.e. anti-Conservative) votes will be so diluted that we’re going to end up with a Conservative minority, or a slim majority Conservative government.

The choices are so many and yet so few!
