The other day Chocoholic decided to make mini pizzas for dinner. She had a rice flour pizza crust in the freezer to satisfy her gluten-free requirements, and was going to use a whole wheat wrap for my crust.
Ah, but what about the toppings, you ask? She’s a vegetarian, so it wasn’t a big deal for her. Tomato sauce, cheese, mushrooms, fresh tomato, brocolli (yuck!), red onions, olives… Fine, but where’s the meat for MY pizza?
Okay, so cheese and meat together is not Kosher. So what? I promised her there would be no pork products in the house; I never promised her I would keep Kosher!
The problem was there was a decided lack of meat in the fridge at the time. We were still using up the merged contents of our two fridges from when she moved in, and I hadn’t gotten any sliced meat for my samiches yet. No big deal… I’ll just pick something up at the supermarket.
Did you know it is impossible to find pepperoni, or any other similar kind of sausage, that does not contain pork?
In the end, I got a package of all-beef jumbo hot dogs, and sliced one of them up. Did the job quite nicely.
