Reality Sucks!!

I have a headache today. It’s a STRESS-related headache, caused by yet another argument/fight/”heated discussion” with Chocoholic.

This moving in together shit is VERY difficult, especially when you are as old, crotchety, and set in my/our ways as I/we am/are!!

As much as I would LIKE to say “I can’t wait until all this turmoil is over and we are settled so we can get on with enjoying each other and our life together,” the Reality Check in me says “it is STILL going to take some time and it CAN’T all take place at once!!! So DEAL with it.”

Yet I can’t seem to get past feeling resentful over what I see as her selfish behaviour. Two examples come to mind, though perhaps that’s because they are examples of where I feel it is MY TURN to be selfish.

First, there’s the issue of the car. It’s a perfectly good car, running well, doesn’t cost a lot in maintenance, BUT it’s got a manual transmission, and doesn’t drive a stick. So I’ve ended up driving her around, to work, to her yoga classes, etc., places that I wouldn’t otherwise be going on my own. Her Solution (selfish): Trade the car in and get one that has an automatic transmission. Why? Because she claims she has too much stress from all the other things going on that she can’t learn to drive a standard! (Oh, by the way, MY car payments would still stay the same. She’s willing to “chip in” the difference, but she’s not willing to get a second car for herself, even though she can afford it at the moment!) Logical Solution: Have her learn to drive a standard so she can take the car when she needs it.

Second, there’s the (admittedly lesser) issue of the lamps. I have a pair and a single table lamps that I got from my parents. I’ve had them for years, and I really don’t want to part with them because they are in some small way my Family Heirlooms. Her Solution (selfish): Get rid of the lamps because she thinks they are ugly. It doesn’t matter that we don’t have any other lamps to replace them, and will therefore stumble around in the dark. Logical Solution: Okay, there probably isn’t one. I just like the lamps! And they work!

Somebody please tell me that things will get better!! PLEASE? Pretty please??
