This is a journal entry quite like most of my private journal entries. By private journal entry, I mean the entries I make in my private journal, not livejournal entries that are marked private. What it amounts to is essentially a brain dump. I just start writing, not with anything in particular in mind, and just go where the train of thought or the derailment thereof takes me. Sometimes I go on and on and on about what sort of things have happened to me. Most that’s what it is: time to catch up and record what my life has been doing to me lately. Like last night for example. It was the end of Passover, and to “break my fast” (okay, so technically it isn’t a fast as such, where you don’t eat anything, but a fast of a sorts where the only grain products you can eat have to be made specially for Passover) I went out for dinner with a certain someone. I haven’t seen her in quite some time, so I was looking forward to finally having a chance to spend a little time with her. To make things easier and equitable, we met at a restaurant about half way between our two houses. She lives some 40 km away from me, maybe more. That’s fine, I guess. It just meant there was no bedroom into which to retire after dinner.
Well, unfortunately, it ended up being quite a little time. Basically it was dinner, and a bit of conversation afterwards, and then she left to go home and take care of the doggie. You would think that perhaps one of the people she shares the house with, Person A or Person D, might be able to let the doggie out for a quick pee… but no, it seems that the doggie is hers, and they have nothing to do with it. I wish I knew what was going on with her. You see, Person A used to be her S.O. I don’t know what he is now. He MAY be just a housemate. He may be more. I know they own the house together: he has a 60% share, she 40%. I know they tend to go on vacations together. I also know they have separate bedrooms, and have had for the seven or so years that I’ve known her. And I never got to the point in the conversation where it would be appropriate to say, “Hey, what’s up with you and him??”
So she left… but not until we had stood around the parking lot for another 15 or 20 minutes… and I went into the grocery store to do some shopping. I was completely out of salad and veggies and fruit and good healthy food like that.
It was nearly 11 o’clock by the time I got home. I went on to the computer to check my e-mail, and I decided to have a look at the file my Dad sent me. He was having trouble opening it in Word, so I wanted to see what I could do about it. Turns out, no surprise really considering the age of the file, that it was a Word Perfect 5.1 file, and a possibly corrupt one at that. I don’t have Word Perfect installed on my computer, and we got rid of it on my Dad’s computer when we gave him the latest version of “we got a new computer so you get to have our old one”. But as it happened, I found I had a back up of his old machine not quite sure why I had it so I unzipped that and tried it out. Lo and behold, there’s the file! SO I got on the phone to my Dad and gave him the news. That lead to a 45-minute conversation of how we could get his Word Perfect going again. The NEXT thing to do after that was to convince my Dad that he did NOT need to start using Word Perfect 5.1 (running in a DOS window!) instead of Word. “No, Dad. It’s JUST for cases where you can’t open the old documents in Word! You open it in Word Perfect, then SAVE it to TEXT and then re-edit it in Word!” I can just picture my Dad going back to using Word Perfect 5.1 (running in a DOS window) again. If he calls and tells me he can’t print from Word Perfect, I’ll just smile to myself and say, “Yes, that’s right. You can’t.”
Other than that, it’s Friday, and my lunch has begun to work it’s way through my system to the point that I should probably get out of my chair and go do something about it. Yuck! TMI, eh? Hey, this is MY journal…
Speaking of eating, I now have a plan to eat healthy again, starting this evening. I wanted one last meal of Food Court Crap… primarily because I didn’t have time to assemble proper lunch ingredients before I had to leave to catch my bus this morning, and there really is nothing healthy available in the office complex where I work. I have a 75th Anniversary High School Reunion coming up in June about six weeks from now. I think it would be interesting if I could get back down to my high school graduation weight, but realistically I don’t think that’s going to happen; I would have to lose about 2 pounds per week.
And that’s it for me for now.
