One of Those Weeks!

Today is Friday, and thankfully it is the end of One of Those Weeks. Mind you, it’s not going to be a particularly great day. It’s only 10 o’clock, and I’m already feeling like I should be doing something else instead of doing what I’m doing now. (I’m talking about Work, not writing in my journal, which I probably shouldn’t be doing here anyway!) Right now, my back is aching, not from any strain just from being old. Any my mind is wandering, mostly to avoid thinking about something I need to make a decision on, or more likely need help on making a decision. You can relax; it’s work related; I haven’t had any Psycho Bitches scream at me in a couple of months now! 😎 You know, it probably shouldn’t seem like this week has been so bad, since it started out as a short week to begin with; Monday was a Bank Holiday and since my client is a bank, I had the day off work. Monday was a nicely productive day. I invited X-teen to come over for dinner, but it was more convenient for her to come for a lunch visit instead. So I had less time to spend getting the place cleaned up—it has been a bit neglected because of the work on the deck, all those deck-building tools and parts scattered all over the living room and kitchen, and not having enough time or energy left to do a regular tidying up—but I managed to make the place presentable. She even had room to bring a chair into the kitchen so she could sit and chat while I cooked. I made one of my signature dishes—Chicken a l’orange, with rice and mixed veggies—and it turned out quite tasty! What can I say? I’m a good cook! After lunch, staying just long enough to not have it be eat-and-run, X-teen left, and I spent a few more hours working on the deck before I had to get cleaned up and go to play trivia. Perhaps I should have stayed home instead… I really tanked at trivia, barely scraping out two correct answers, and not being much help to my team. Tuesday was much better. After work, I went over to tammy2tall‘s place. She had a house guest visiting enroute from New Zealand to England, and since the guest didn’t want to go see Bowling for Columbine or venture into The Big City, she decided to have a Mexican Fiesta Party at home instead. Lots to drink, lots to eat, lots of laughs, and it ended far too soon. Damn these Day Jobs! Wednesday was pretty innocuous, or at least it seems to have been in hindsight since I can’t really remember much about it two days later. Oh, yeah, now I remember. It was my first day back to my usual office, and the renovations had started. My current desk situation sucks to put it mildly. I no longer have any cubicle walls, a different person is sitting next to me and she is VERY LOUD when she talks, which is just about constantly, either on the phone for business or generally gabbing with co-workers. I also have no visual privacy, so I have to be careful what I do on the computer. *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink* If it weren’t for AC-DC and Devo and the other tunes I have cranked in my headphones, I wouldn’t get anything done at all because of all the distractions! Thursday was a great example of that. I had managed to be fairly productive on Wednesday and Thursday morning, but I got to the end of my mind-numbing, butt-grinding, number-crunching analysis, and had to make a decision. I just could not do that yesterday afternoon, so I decided to take off early and go do a little bit of work at home. I had to get under the deck to finish fastening the railings, and needed the ground to dry up after last weekend’s tormental downpour(s), and needed relatively warm weather and ambient daylight since there was no way I could safely get artificial light underneath. It was a nicely productive end to an otherwise useless day, and I even managed to get the railings framed on the upper stairs. This means I’ll be able to put the rail caps on the upper deck, and THAT means I might actually be able to completely finish the upper deck! And now today is Friday and I’m still sleepy and my back is aching and I really don’t want to be here. On the other hand, while I can think of a few places I’d rather be, I don’t have any way to make those things happen, because other people have Day Jobs and can’t take the day off either. Such is Life.

Well, I probably should get back to work!
